Barbara's Birthday

We met Barbara for a sushi dinner in a restaurant in our neighborhood. Since it was her birthday we also had to sing "Happy Birthday" and eat some ice cream at our place afterwords.

Air and Space Museum

Only a few weeks ago the retired space shuttle Discovery was moved to the Air and Space museum next to the Dulles airport. For Andreas, Chris and Jonah this was on their must see list for Washington DC.
We also had a look and also checked out some other planes as well.

Jonah also had to show a new toy to Mia

At the Playground with Jonah

When Jonah was visiting this weekend we also checked out a little playground in our neighborhood.

After all the climbing the complimentary mango yogurt drink at a Indian restaurant down the street was really refreshing. Jonah finished his in no time. The gown ups had a nice cold beer

Rolling Thunder

On the Sunday before Memorial Day thousands of - mostly  loud - motorbikes joined for the "Rolling Thunder" parade in the center of Washington DC. This was one of the many things to see for uncle Andreas, aunt Chris, and cousin Jonah who were visiting from Denver this weekend.
Even though it was sometimes very loud Mia also watched for some time

But then she enjoyed the ice cream she bought with mama and Jonah more than all the motorbikes

Start of the Pool Season

Mia started the pool season with a splash on a hot and muggy Memorial Day weekend.

Last Day of Preschool

Mia's first year of preschool ended with a celebration in the school's gym. Everyone from her class had mad a tie dye t-shirt and practiced a song

Mia still has to improve her performance skills a little bit but she has come a long way from were she started only nine months ago. She had wonderful teachers and really enjoyed her three hours in the class.
On that last day before her first summer vacation she also enjoyed the juice and muffins that were part of the reception

This weekend there was a nice little festival in a park in our neighborhood and the weather was just perfect.
There were lots a nice games for children, a band was playing and a pony ride was one of the higkights. About a year ago Mia was still a bit scared when she tried to a pony ride at the county fair but this time she really enjoyed it

She also enjoyed the lollipop tree, the pizza and the bake sale were we bought  two chocolate chip cookies for the nice old ladies.

At the book sale Mia picked a book on big cats

Puzzle

Mia has a collection of four animal puzzles each with 12 pieces. The other day she completed all of them herself and was pretty proud of it.

Open House at French Embassy

This year we spent the open house event of the European embassies at the French one. They had organized an event together with the German embassy which was closed for renovations. So this year no beer garden with sausages and umpha music  but wine, baguette and chansons.
When Mia saw the face painting stand she wanted to get one as well - her first one ever. Her choice was a purple cat.
There was also a beautiful orange parakeet. Mia was a bit too scared to let hom sit on his shoulder but wanted mama to give it a try

Mother's Day at Pre School

On the last day of school before mother's day the children had prepared a little performance
Mia liked the dancing and falling down part

After that there was some time left to play
