Princess Mia

After listening to some music from "Frozen" Mia wanted  to dress up like a princess and made her own crown from yellow cardboard. Her cape was a blanked she has used as a baby

Clarendon Day

Right after the Oktoberfest at the German school we had to go to the Clarendon Day in our neighborhood. Mia had her eyes on the activities for children:
One was a climbing tower

The main attraction was the bungee trampoline jumping which had a long line and a wait of about one hours. But then Mia really had fun

 Mia meet some other friends from school and the building and some of them tries the Irish dancing the saw on stage

Oktoberfest

Like last year Mia had an opportunity to wear her Dirndel at the Oktoberfest of the German school. This year we had very nice warm and sunny weather and it was much better organized with no long lines for the food.
Mia headed first to the playground with Larissah who had been disappointed that Mia didn't join her for the 1 K run 

 After a sausage and Reibekuchen Mia also wanted to try the Cotton candy

 The parents enjoyed the food and at a nice table in the shade

 Then the children had to pose for a group picture

Mia headed back to the playground before we had to leave for our neighborhood festival "Clarendon Day"

Ice Cream With Kennedy and her Sister

On a nice warm late summer evening we met Kennedy, with her sister, brother and mother Suzette at the Clay Park playground. After they played together we had an outdoor dinner with poposas and burritos at the gazebo at the park. Since it was such a nice evening Suzette suggested to have some ice cream and we all went by bike to an ice cream place 5 minutes away - Mia was riding all by herself.

Once we were finished it was already dark and when we were back home it was oar Mia's bed time. But it was a great evening.

Into the Wild

Christoph had mentioned that he would like to take the kids on a little walk through the woods near his house. This Saturday it finally worked out and on a beautiful late summer day we did join him for this little adventure

 We saw a lot of trees that were toppled over

A little creak didn't have much water after a few weeks with not much rain. Fortunately this also meant the ground was not very muddy

 Sometimes we had to balance over trees

 Mia and Larissah always helped each other

Mia found a strawberry and Larissah something scarey

Then it was time to ride the bike back to Christoph's place. The tow had still some extra energy for some extra loops over a basketball court

Back at the house they practiced on their circus routine on the rope ladder to the tree house
 

Deutsche Schule

Also the German School has started again and Mia is now in the building with the big kids and attending the equivalent of first grade.
Its nice that she is in the same class as Larissah

The parents also enjoy to be together for their breakfast club

First Day of School

Mia was pretty excited about her first day of school at Arlington Science Focus and had no trouble getting up an hour earlier than her usual time in the summer.

Together with many other families we waited at the bus top around the corner from our house

 Then the bus pulled up and it was time for a kiss

We then walked the 20 minutes to school to see the activities there and Mia was already waiting in her group

 

 It was hot and pretty noisy with loud pop music and announcements by the principle but Mia just marched with her class into the building when it was their turn

At  4 pm it was time to pick her up at the bus stop and she said that she had enjoyed her first day

Finally Hot

On what is the official last day of summer in the US - Labor Day - it finally turned hot and humid. The whole summer has been unusually cool so it was nice to have some summer heat for a change.
In the morning we went to the spray park at the Lyon Villag epark

 Luca and his family showed up as well

So Mia also played a bit with Nico

 In the afternoon we wanted to go swimming at the pool but all of a sudden there was a heavy thunderstorm. It was over in less tan 15 minutes though and we got to enjoy a beautiful rainbow
