Papa's Birthday

After a birthday breakfast in Heidelberg we drove all the way to Cologne to also celebrate the other birthday boy

After a shopping stop in Montabauer we first saw the parade in Wahn where many neighborhood groups have  put together floats - because Mia really enjoyed it a year earlier

Family Afternoon at the Kulturfenster

The Kulturfenster is a small cultural center just around the corner that has offerings for everyone from small children to teenager and adult: Children theater and puppet showss,  workshops from sewing to skateboard and graffiti and stand up comedy or poetry slams in the evening for adults. During the Easter break last year Mia took part in a circus workshop and one of the organizers met her on the street recently and invited her to the family play afternoon offered once a  month.

A dog also joined the event

A couple of board games were set out and Mia showed us how to play a game she knows from the aftercare ar school

Mia also tried some wood working

She now has a little board with her name. We also met Kelly and her girls who we had invited to set the place out

A Typo in the Newspaper

Mia likes to read the kids section in the local newspaper. Today she even discovered a typo there when it said "Schlaganug" instead of "Schlafanzug" below a picture

Ice Skating in Heddesheim

Neighbors and colleagues had mentioned an outdoor skating rink in Heddesheim which is only a 15 minute drive away. Since it has turned cooler again and the rink is open until March we decided to check it out.

It was not too crowded and the size of an regular ice hockey field with a nice view of the hills of the Odenwald in the distance

The price for the tickets and the snacks was very reasonable

When the ice was remade we waited for the rink to open again so that we can try the fresh ice.

Mia was waiting to get a start from the pool position

It was quite crowded after a while so we left in the early afternoon

Worms

We made a little trip to Worms - a city with a old cathedral and a rich history. Unfortunately the town was destroyed almost completely just before the end of the war so its doesn't have much charm left.
Mia kept here eyes open for playgrounds and things like the skateboard like balancing toy at a public square.

The square was named after Luther and has a big statue of him because Martin Luther had an historic meeting with the German emperor in Worms in 1521.

The cathedral - Dom - is Romanesque but he eastern side is baroque inside - an interesting combination

Outside Mia was jumping from high walls

We also walked to the river Rhine where Mia finally found a decent playground

The Newspaper Reader

The local newspaper has a kids page that Mia sometimes takes a look at. Here she reads a story about some kids in Bavaria who found a treasure worth 250,000  Euro in the woods

The owner had hidden it there because he was afraid of thieves - obviously his hiding spot was not so great. The honesty of the children came as a surprise.
