Before Mia turns 15 in December we used the last opportunity for her to travel for free on Deutsche Bahn - the German Railway - for a trip to Bologna in northern Italy. There is a non-stop train from Munich so the trip over the Alps is easy and very scenic
Mia's friend joined us - she could also ride the train for free and there was no extra cost at the apartment for an extra person.
Mia had picked the Lamborghini museum as our first place to visit - it is in the village of Santa Agata Bolognese, a short bus ride from Bologna
The company has their 60 year anniversary
Back in the city in the afternoon - it is famous for its covered sidewalks - the Porticos
For a late lunch we stopped for some tagliatelle al ragu - one of the signature dishes from Bologna.
Then we headed for the historic center
Fontana del Nettuno
Le Due Torri: The ancient medieval towers are a landmark of the city. The smaller one was closed just a week earlier since it is leaning too much
The Basicila die San Petronia with its unfinished facade
We enjoyed our first day in the city
