A Day by the Lake

Friday we didn't have any special plans. First we enjoyed the breakfast and Mia the playground

There were also two ponies

When the clouds moved out we drove to the lake shore in Bernau

A few hundred meters from the tourist center was a bird watching area

In the observation tower was a strong binocular

Some dogs liked the area as well

Mia discovered a nest on way back

Time for ice cream

A spin on the race track

A cold beer in the evening

While Mia played some more we went for an evening walk

 Our dinner

A full moon over the mountains

Salzburg

Unfortunately it turned grey windy and rather cold after just one sunny day.So we decided to take the one hour train ride to Salzburg - the picturesque Austrian city by the river Salzsach where Mozart was born.

Luckily it was still dry when we walked around in the old town

When it started to rain we tool the funicular train up to the old fortress

It was very wind and really cold with 8 C but Mia still wanted to do some climbing

While it was raining outside we explored the 1000 year old castle

At the end of the tour was of course a gift shop

Cruise on the Chiemsee

Luckily it turned sunny after three days of clouds and rain and we thought that this would be a good day to explore the two main islands on the Chiemsee.
We took the boat from Prien and first stopped at Herrenchiemsee

There King Ludwig II had built a castle as a copy of the one built by the French King Louis XIV in Versailles

There was an interesting exhibit about the colorful Bavarian king and a tour of the palace - with no photos allowed.
At the end Mia could try to roar like a lion - the symbol of Bavaria

Then she wanted to take a horse drawn wagon back to the boat pier - and sit in the front. The whole way back she was chatting with the girl next to her and the lady steering the wagon

The next boat ride was to Frauenchiemsee a smaller island with a more than 1000 year old monestary

Mia was more interested in a small cafe by the beach

She and some other kids checked the water which was still pretty cold

Then it was time to catch the last boar back to the main land

It was the oldest in the fleet

On the way back to the farm we stopped at a nice inn with traditional food.

On the way back we had to stop for a concert in the middle of the road. On the farm next door a lady had turned 80 and received it a special surprise

First Day at Lake Chiemsee

From Munich it was only a one hour drive to the Chiemsee a big lake at the foot of the Alps. For a place to stay we had picked a farm in Bernau that rents rooms and holiday apartments.

The farm was a 10 minute drive from the lake a in the foot hills and one could see the lake om one side and the snow covered mountains in a different direction

There was a little play area for kids and Mia also loved the cats and rabbits there as well

The first afternoon we dove Prien a city by the lake were all the boats to the islands leave from

An old steam train connects the train station and the piers

The weather was not perfect but we really liked the scenery
