Saturday in Arlington

Like we did in the past we spend Saturday morning with Sylvia and her family at the farmers market in Courthouse

 

 Also like in the past we bough some fresh yogurt

Then a coffee break at the Bayou cafe - no discount though with my LSU T-shirt

What didn't exit nine years ago with a new office tower in Rosslyn with a observation deck that offers great views of DC - and doesn't even charge a fee

 

Sylvia insisted on a quick trip across the river to DC to visit a museum of our choice - we picked the Natural History one

When the museum closed we spent some time on the Mall

After this we all were invited for dinner at the new house of Sylvia and her family

Back to Arlington

After almost nine years we finally headed back to Arlington on a bus from Penn station to Rosslyn. First we passed all the bridges around Newark

After a stop in Bethesda we drove over the Key bridge

Sylvia picked us up and we checked in our hotel at Courthouse. Then we walked to our old neighborhood. There are a lot of old memories - luckily some things didn't change

Day two in new York City

 Our second full day in new York City started with a great breakfast and then a heavy rainstorm made us wait in our room before venuring out.

When it finally stopped around 10 am Mia wanted to walk to a Nike store around the corner and then to M&M store just a short walk away

The next stop was the Apple flagship store at the south-eastern corner of the Central Park and just a few steps from the Walldorf Astoria and the Trump tower

From there we hooped on a Q train to meet Christian's brother for lunch in China town

 
After a nice lunch at a Taiwanese restaurant Mia wanted to walk over the Manhattan bridge to Brookly - quite walk but we had some beeautiful views

After hunting down a bathroom in Brooklyn we hopped back on a subway train to the south end of Manhattan to enjoy the views from a free ferry to Staten Island

A police boat had followed our ferry but turned away befor we reached Staten Island

 Then we met Kenny and Ashley for dinner at a neighborhood pub not too far from Washington square

Day one in New York City

 Our first full day in New York started with a nice breakfast in the hotel

After breakfast Mia had to check out the Starbucks at the New York Times building a few blocks from our hotel:

Then we heaed to the west side where the High Line ends close to the new Hudson yards complex

Luckily for Mia the fancy shopping mall there also had a nice restroom. Then we walked the High Line were we had been almost on the day eleven years earlier

Then we stopped at the Hudson River Park at Pier 51 which is kind of new and offers nice views of lower Manhattan

 

From there we walked all the way to Washington Square to meet Kenny at one of his favorite bars in Greenwich village

 

 They know him there well and they had godd Happy Hour specials

On the way back we also had  a look the community garden next to La Guardia Place - it has been around much longer than our community garden in Heidelberg
