Wolfsschlucht Zwingenberg

We have been to Zwingenberg a few times in the last two years but always around the campground where the Girl Scouts usually camp one night in the summer - when there is no Corona crisis.
This time we tried something news and explored the area around the castle - which unfortunately is a private property and not open to the pubic  - where the Wolf's Canyon (Wolfsschluch) starts.

We parked by the river and then crossed the train tracks on a foot bridge where Mia took a panorama shot

Neckar

A nice view from the castle

The canyon was pretty steep

For Ji it was a bit too steep so we had to turn around and look for a different route

The other route

The wider trails were more to Ji's taste

At the end of the other route we got back to the canyon

A Nature walk in Brühl

After we had explored the nature preserve along the river Rhine in Brühl a few months back without Mia we took here there on a nice spring day.
We parked our car at the outskirts of Brühl where a friend of Ji lives - that's how we know the area - and then started the 1 km walk towards the Rhine passing some lakes that were created when the riverbed was straightened 200 years ago and the old riverbed was closed in parts against the new one.

Mia had bought her scooter to avoid strenuous hikning

When we reached the river we took a break and watched some of the passing barges

 Mia watched some swans

Some birds at a bird feeder

Along the Leimenbach - a small creek

Feeding a swan

A stork looking for dinner

Watering some fields

The walk back alog the Leimenbach was a major detour but very nice and worth the extra time

Walk to the top of the Heiligenberg

Nisha joined us again for a walk on the other side of the Neckar: This time to the top of the Heiligenberg where we had a look at the Thingstätte is a Nazi-era amphitheater.

It was quite the long walk but there were some nice views in between

A little break

It was Mia's first vist at the almost 90 year old complex

A nice view from the top across the theater to the other mountains and the Rhine valley. Mia and Nisha are sitting on the bridge-like building behind the stage

 Going down was more fun

Almost down..
