Staufen

On the last day of our mini vacation we took the bus to Staufen - a small village south of Freiburg
First we had some coffee and hot chocolate at the main station in Freiburg where one area offers service 24/7 via vending machines:

There was for example a vending machine for cheese cake

Or one for wine

And of course other vending machines for milk, candy, ham or Sushi to go.

Of course we had to climb to the castle ruins

We took the bus back to Freiburg and then made it back to Heidelberg via local trains with only one connection

Titisee and Schluchsee

Freiburg is a gateway into the Black Forest. A local train from the main station took us to the lake Titisee in about 30 minutes

The place is a bit touristy but we rented a pedal boat for one hour  to be on the water a bit

But we still managed to make it back:

After this adventure we too another 30 minute train ride through the Black Forrest to lake Schluchsee

Back in Freiburg we had dinner at a beer garden and then walked to Old Town

After dinner we looked for some ice cream of course

Trip to Freiburg

On the long Pentecost weekend we decided to explore Freiburg and the surrounding area for three day. We decided to go there by local trains which we can take at  no extra cost since the introduction of teh Deutschland Ticket and Mia's student ticket which is valid for the whole of Baden Württemberg.
After the 2.5 hour trip from Heidelberg we went to see the Schauinsland mountain close to Freiburg where a cable car took us to the top,'
The  cable car is one of the longest in Germany and the ride was about 20 minutes

After an early dinner in a beer garden we went to have a look at huge fun fair
