Trip to the city of Kos

Of course we didn't spent all the time on the beach or around the hotel. A public bus left right in front of the hotel to Kos the main city of the island.
The town has a history that goes from ancient Greece to the Romans, Crusaders, Ottomans, and the Italians.
The bus stop was not far from the central market hall

From there it was a few steps to the harbor with the ruins of a crusader fortress

Around the corner were the ruins of the ancient city

Roman mosaics

A earthquake hat hit just a few weeks earlier and destroyed some builds

Before the bus left there was some time to look around at the shops

First Day on Kos

We had booked a one week vacation on the Greek island of Kos just three weeks earlier before leaving for Augsburg and had been looking forward to some warm weather after the rainy week in Bavaria.
After a 2.5 hour flight from Stuttgart in Saturday afternoon we arrived in the middle of the night and didn't see much.
The view from our room the next morning was then really nice - and Mia wanted to share it with her three stuffed animals that had come along

The view from the breakfast table was pretty good too and the buffet had some nice Greek specialties

After applying lots of sunscreen it was time to check out the Aegean sea

We also enjoyed dinner and the view in the evening'

Mia was not interested in the kids club but in the mini disco in the evening

Bike Tour along the Neckar

Our first bike tour along the Neckar last year didn't work out so well since we didn't fund a good route and for a good part had to ride along a four lane road with a lots of traffic. This time we planned a bit better and tool the S-Bahn to Hirschhorn - a nice old town on the river but not on the busy main road.

From there we took a quite bile route along the river

We found a good spot for a picnic

Our spot was next to a ferry landing and we saw some interesting cars crossing

The total trip was 24 km and Mia did well

We were back in Heidelberg to watch a bit of the a game of the first day of the soccer season at the Uni Mensa in the Marstall nn old  part of he city fortification and treat Mia for a Fanta at Merlin

A week of Horse Riding

The city of Heidelberg offers some activities for children during the summer vacation and this year we signed up early enough to get a spot for Mia in the program with a week of horse riding
The stables were a 15 bike ride away:

Mia had been on horses before so it worked out well for her

The next day she brought some snacks

There were different horses to ride on

A group picture

Some more carrots on the last day as a good bye
