Sightseeing in Augsburg

Augsburg was the home the Fuggers a very wealthy and influential merchant family in the 16'th century who financed the German emperors and the Spanish empire - and who also built the first social housing complex in 1521. The Fuggerei is still in use and the rent stayed stable since then - it is now 80 cents a year - and three daily prayers for Jakob Fugger.

The ticket to get in was a bit more expensive

The apartments have been modernized and one is open for tourist

There is also one kept in the original style

We found some nice corners in the city

We stopped at the city hall from 1624 to see the "Goldener Saal" a huge hall decorated with lots of gold

The building burned to its outside wall in 1944 but the hall was reconstructed over many years

We also stopped a medieval fair at the old city wall

The person with its unclimbable rope ladder we had already seen twice in Heidelberg

Then it was time to relax in a beer garden by the Rote Turm

Mia also tried to take a selfie
