Lorsch Abbey

The former abbey in Lorsch is a UNESCO world heritage site and only a 30 minute drive north of Heidelberg. We had never checked it out before. The abbey, together with its monumental entrance, the 9-th century 'Torhall', are rare architectural vestiges of the Carolingian era.

Only a part of teh church is left of the abbey:

Nanxun

After a nice lunch with his family our host drove us back all the way to Shanghai and even stopped on the way back in Nanxun to show us the historic town

A charming old town with a canals:

Fancy cars here as well:

Also on the highway back to Shanghai where it started to rain hard

Luckily it had stopped when we arrived back at the hotel

Chanxing Chinese Alligator Reserve

Sunday morning our host took us to another interesting spot, the Chanxing Chinese Alligator Reserve where Chinese alligators - a very rare species - can survive in lakes in ponds. They are a bit smaller than their cousins in the southern US:
First stop was an information center.
