The former abbey in Lorsch is a UNESCO world heritage site and only a 30 minute drive north of Heidelberg. We had never checked it out before. The abbey, together with its monumental entrance, the 9-th century 'Torhall', are rare architectural vestiges of the Carolingian era.
Only a part of teh church is left of the abbey:
A wedding party stoppped for pictures with their antique car
A short walk away was the replica of a medieval farm
A tobacco field
Some ruins a short walk away
The market squre in Lorsch with some nice ice cafes
